After a year that saw an average package growth of 50.5%, the Career Development Centre (CDC), the placement cell of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi, achieved more than mere statistical targets in Placements 2007-08. 40 companies from as many as 12 sectors, including consulting, investment banking, insurance, media, real estate and knowledge services made a total of 162 offers to 128 students. 17 different profiles ranging from corporate advisory and strategic consulting associate, to global corporate service associate, business analyst, compensation analyst and management trainee were offered. The percentage of firms offering the typical Analyst/Business Analyst/Junior Analyst profile has decreased to 46% from 70% last year.
The list of recruiters featured a number of new additions including Assocham, Bain, Bajaj Allianz, Crisil, DBS, Ernst & Young, Grail Research, Maersk, Protiviti and Reuters (in alphabetical order), along with firms such as AVIVA India, CB Richard Ellis, Corporate Executive Board, Hewitt Associates, McKinsey and UBS, who recruited from CBS last year as well. The Average Salary crossed Rs 4.56 lakh per annum and the highest package had a cash component alone of Rs 7 lakh per annum, which went to three students. Recruiters were ranked by each student according to their individual preferences, and almost 50% of the students were placed in companies they ranked in the top 5.
CBS has long remained the only college under the University of Delhi providing undergraduate management education to students, and conducts an entrance test for its BBS and BFIA programs where the intake ratio is as narrow as 1:116. Apart from facilitating live interactions through annual corporate seminars, college festivals and ensuring stronger industry interactions by taking initiative in facilitating internships and live projects, CDC also organizes mentorship programs for the students with alumni placed at managerial positions with top MNCs.
